Abortion
Truth overview: Abortion is the murdering of a precious, innocent, helpless life that absolutely has a soul and can absolutely feel pain. Individual rights matter. This isn't a woman's rights issue, it is a baby's rights issue. The baby has the right to continue living. Life begins at conception. Choose life.
Lie #1: "The unborn child is just a fetus, not a living soul"
The child within the womb is alive from the moment of conception. The baby has a beating heart at six weeks, a developing brain by week seven, almost all organs developed by 12 weeks, by week 14 it can smile, by 19 weeks it can hear you when you sing, by 21 weeks it has eyebrows, and by 22 weeks it looks identical to a small newborn. Horrifically, at up to 24 weeks (and often even later), 3,000 babies are murdered per day in the U.S. through surgical or chemical abortion. This is mass murder and it is one of the defining sins -- an abomination -- of our age.
Life begins at conception. The Bible teaches this, common sense demands it, and science proves it. The life within the womb is recognized by God as a living soul and we should too.
Psalm 22:9-10 "But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts. I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly."
Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
Children are a blessing from God. God watches and guides development within the womb. An unborn child is often described as the "fruit of the womb" in the Bible. This is a fitting analogy because, as a grape on the vine, fruit grows and grows until it is fully mature. Yes, it is small at the beginning but it is just as much a grape then as it is near the end when it begins to shrivel and shrink. A grape is a grape. A child is a child.
Psalm 127:3 "Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."
Psalm 139:13-16 "For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them."
The Bible describes pregnant women as "with child" 30 times through the Old and New Testaments. It does not say women are with a fetus, a blob of flesh, or something that could be destroyed. It says with child.
Ecclesiastes 11:5 "As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all."
2 Samuel 11:5 "And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child."
God has already named the child within the womb. The aborted baby has a name whether the parents gave him one or not.
Isaiah 49:1 “…The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.”
To understand that life within the womb is LIFE (if common sense is not enough), one should also look at the story of John the Baptist and Jesus before they were born. In the book of book Luke, there was a supernatural interaction between these two children while in the womb. This is a vivid example that the unborn are not fetuses or blobs of cells -- they are living souls. Souls that feel both the joy of living and the pain of abortion.
Luke 1:41-44 “And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.”
Lie #2: "It's my body. I have a right to choose"
Wrong. It isn't the body of the mother that is about to be mutilated by the abortionist, it is the child's.
Exodus 20:13 "Thou shalt not kill."
Proverbs 6:16-17 “These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood”
Exodus 21:22 “If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her ... he shall be surely punished…”
Romans 14:11-12 "For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God."
Revelation 21:8 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
LIE #3: "Rape is an important part of the debate"
No, rape is in no way an important part of the pro-choice, pro-life debate. Pregnancies due to rape or incest account for a whopping 1.5 percent of all abortions (some studies suggest even less). The truth is that most women have abortions because they have been tricked into believing that it is their right to destroy the life that is inside them.
Psalm 106:37-39 “Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils, And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood. Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.”
It is not your right to murder another person and the decision to kill your own child will haunt you the rest of your life. Please do not choose this path.
Other Options
If you’re considering an abortion, please stop right now and realize you’re carrying a living soul, one that deserves life as much as you do, and that it would be a tragic sin to end the child's life. Abortion isn't the answer. Please contact Truth Baptist Church to talk about the many options available.
Forgiveness
Of course, for those who have already had an abortion and know what they did was wrong, the next step is simple: seek God's forgiveness. God is a merciful God who will absolutely pardon. And may it be said, when you stand before God and in the company of your aborted child, that you lived the rest of your life standing for the truths of God's word -- standing against the abomination of abortion.
Romans 14:10 “…for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.”
Isaiah 1:18 "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as whiteas snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
Psalm 103:12 "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."
2 Cor. 7:1 "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."
